Our Key Projects

Star Schools

The AVI Star Schools Incubator Programme affords grade 10, 11 and 12 children from 27 township schools the opportunity to attend additional classes in Mathematics, Science and English. AVI currently sponsors three programmes which assist 450 scholars.

Tertiary Bursary Programme

In 2010 AVI sponsored 24 students of which 11 graduated from our Star Schools program to study at various universities, technikons and colleges.

Woman Development Bank - Micro Finance

Based on and supported by the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh which gives micro loans to poor rural women to help them out of poverty. The programme is currently reaching out to over 200,000 families and over R80m has supported 80,000 women borrowers in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KZN.

Heartworks

Heartworks is an organisation that rehabilitates prisoners with maximum sentences who are about to be released into the community.

Learn to Earn

Learn to Earn in the Khayelitsha and Hermanus areas is an organisation assisting unemployed individuals with skills to become economically active.

Rural Education Access Programme (REAP)

REAP assists carefully selected matriculants from poor rural communities to access tertiary education.

Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital

The group has supported this hospital for many years. This year AVI contributed towards the upgrade of the Burns Unit at the hospital.

WARMTH

War against Malnutrition, Tuberculosis and Hunger (WARMTH) helps in providing low cost meals to approximately 5,000 people per day.
